Hibs pair Miller & Stokes called up to Ireland squad

Last updated : 31 October 2009 By Steve Forbes

Hibs players Liam Miller and Anthony Stokes have tonight both been called up to the 25-man Republic of Ireland squad, for the up coming World Cup Play Off double header against France.

The Irish are only 180 minutes from qualifying for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and the two Hibees could be involved.

Miller has been in recent squads, so his inclusion was expected, but the news that Stokes has also now been added to the squad is a timely boost for the forward.

Stokes arrived at Easter Road in the summer, in a reported £500,000 transfer from Premiership side Sunderland, and has been in good form, scoring 4 goals in 9 games.

Those goals have forced Stokes in to the thoughts of Ireland boss Giovanni Trapattoni.

Congratulations to both players.
