A Hibs spokesman has tonight revealed that the club has rejected a second bid by English lower league outfit Colchester United for captain Rob Jones.

The bid is thought to be in the region of £250,000, well short of the Hibees valuation of their skipper.

Colchester have already had a derisory bid of £100,000 turned down a couple of weeks back and boss Paul Lambert has been rebuffed again.

The Hibs spokesman said:

"Hibs have categorically rejected the second offer from Colchester United."

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen is desperate to keep hold of the 6ft 7in centre half, who still has 18 months left on his current contract at Easter Road.

Bristol City, Sheffield United, Leicester City, Nottingham Forest and Ipswich Town are also thought to be waiting in the wings.
