Hibs set to sign Sunderland winger Aiden McGeady

According to the Evening News, new Hibs boss Lee Johnson is closing in on another signing.

The Hibees have already signed Scotland goalkeeper David Marshall from QPR and Leeds United midfielder Noohan Kennah this week.

It now seems a deal to sign veteran winger Aiden McGeady from Sundeerland is close.

The 36-year-old has just finished the season helping Sunderland to promotion back to the Championship from League One and is out-of-contract at the Stadium of Light.

McGeady has spent 5 years with the North East club, and has previously played for Celtic, Spartak Moscow, Everton, Sheffield Wednesday and Charlton Athletic.

He has also been capped 93 times for Ireland.

It had been reported that ex Hibs player Scott Brown could swoop to take him to Fleetwood Town in his first managerial job, but it seems the Hibees have stolen a march.

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

We all know how good a player Aiden McGeady has been over the years, he has had an excellent career.

HIbs have been accused of having no leaders on the park this last 12 months, well the signing of the former Celtic man, and another former Celtic player, keeper David Marshall, should put that to bed.

McGeady is in the twilight of his career, but still seems to be super-fit and would be a cracking signing for Hibs.

He may be 36, but we could probably get a good couple of seasons out of him, and his quality and experience would help bring along the youngsters at the club.

Let's see if the Hibees can push this through.
