Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen is set to welcome Austrian defender Markus Berger to Easter Road on trial.

The 23-year-old will arrived at the Hibees state-of-the-art East Mains training facility to prove his fitness ahead of a possible loan deal.

Berger is hopeful of sealing a loan move to the end of the season, with a view to a permanent deal at Easter Road.

The defender is currently with Portuguese side Academica and is out to impress during his trial period.

His agent Frank Schreier said:

"Markus will have a short trial at Hibernian so that they can assess his physical condition," Schreier told skysports.com.

"He will train with the squad and play in a reserve game later this week.

"Markus is interested in a move to Hibernian because he likes their style of football.

"Any move will be a loan deal until the end of the season with possibly the option to buy."

As well as Academica, Berger has also played for SV Ried in his homeland, making over 60 appearances.
