Hibs have today annouced they have sign Aberdeen midfielder Jamie McGrath.

The 28-year-old Irishman has signed a pre-contract agreement with the Hibees on a 4-year-deal.

McGrath had a new deal on the table from the Dons, aswell as an offer from our city neighbours Hearts, but he has chosen Easter Road as his next move.

Hibs boss David Gray, speaking to the official club website said:

“We’re delighted to have agreed a pre-contract with Jamie. He’s a player that we’ve admired for some time.

“He’s a creative player that will add extra quality in our midfield and in the final third.

“It’s clear to everyone that he’s been a stand-out performer in the Scottish Premiership over the last few years, and his experience and character will add to our dressing room.

“We all look forward to working with Jamie in the summer.”

McGrath made his name in his homeland with St Pat's and then Dundalk, before making the move to St Mirren in 2020.

He so nearly became a Hibs player during the 2021 summer transfer window when the Paisley club accepted an offer of £400,000 plus Scott Allan and Drey Wright on transfer deadline day, only for Hibs to fail to get the paperwork done in time, causing the deal to collapse.

McGrath then joined English side Wigan the following January.

He only played 4 times for the Latics, before being loaned back to Scotland with Dundee United for the 2022-23 season.

Wigan then had to let him leave on a free the following summer, when their owners breached his contract a number of times.

McGrath terminated his contract and signed for Aberdeen in the summer of 2023.

He has been capped 13 times by the Republic of Ireland.

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

A very shrewd piece of business from David Gray.

McGrath has plenty experience, and knows the Scottish Premiership well, there is expected to be big changes at ER this summer, and the signing of the Irishman looks to be the start.

It feels like McGrath has been linked with Easter Road every transfer window over the last few years, so it's no surprise he is on his way to Leith.

We look forward to his arrival.
