Hibs sign Algerian international defender Abderaouf Zarabi!!!

Last updated : 31 January 2008 By Steve Forbes

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen has swooped to make his second signing of the day and his FOURTH of the January transfer window.

Algerian international defender Abderaouf Zarabi has joined the club on a three-year-deal from French side Gueugnon.

Hibs have agreed a fee with his club and the player has agreed to move to Easter Road.

The Hibees are thought to have worked hard into the night to secure a work permit for the player and the 28-year-old will join his new team mates after securing international clearance and a visa.

Zarabi can play left back or in the centre of defence but has also been deployed as a centre midfielder in the past.

He has 26 caps for
Algeria and arrives at the Hibees as the forth January transfer window signing.

Hibs boss Mixu has already splashed out £110,000 for
Inverness midfielder John Rankin, £150,000 on Kilmarnock striker Colin Nish and landed ex Hibees captain Ian Murray on a free from Norwich City.

Zarabi has previously played for Algerian side Na Hussein Dey as well as French sides AC Ajjacio and Geuegnon.

Mixu was delighted to have landed Zarabi and said:

"I tried to get him for TPS but he was too expensive. I've seen him play about six times. He's played for Algeria 26 times and I feel he will be a useful asset for us. We have a couple of promising young left-backs at the club but I felt after David Murphy left for Birmingham City we needed a bit of experience in that position.

"He can also play in other positions, he's played in midfield and he can cover at centre-half."

Mixu is starting to make his mark on the Hibees!
