Hibs sign Aussie defender Lewis Miller

In what has been a busy day at Easter Road, Hibs have announced that they have signed Australian defender Lewis Miller.

The 21-year-old Aussie U23 international will sign for the Hibees on July 1st, on a three-year-deal, with the option of another year on top.

Miller has signed from A-League side MacArthur FC, despite having played for Central Coast Mariners last season, and having never actually played for MacArthur.

The right-back signed a pre-contract agreement to move from The Mariners to MacArthur last season, but Hibs have moved to almost hijack the move, and signed the player for an undisclosed fee from his new club before he could actually move.

Hibs also beat off a late attempt by Aberdeen to hijack the move.

Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss Lee Johnson said:

“I’m delighted the Club have managed to secure Lewis. We have secured his services amongst fierce competition from interested parties in Scotland and across the globe.

“Lewis is a real competitor in his game style and is blessed with the physical and technical attributes to seamlessly fit into the way we work.

“Credit must go to Lewis also, as he decided to join Hibs for the right reasons. I’m looking forward to seeing what he can do in a Hibs shirt.”

Head of Recruitment, Ian Gordon, added:

“A lot of work has gone into bringing Lewis to the Club. He’s someone that really impressed in the A-League last season.

“This highlights our strategy of securing young, exciting talent from around the world and how we’re expanding our scouting network globally.

“The terms of this deal made it a no-brainer for us, as he has the attributes to fit into Lee Johnson’s system.”

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

Not one wee seen coming to be honest.

We have never heard of the lad, but he looks a good talent on paper.

The Hibees seem to have a "blueprint" for signing players, as we have been targeting young, ambitious talents, on the verge of the international stage.

Our defence has also been crying out for a rebuild of sorts, and it looks well underway.
