Hibs sign Barnsley midfielder Stevie Mallan

Last updated : 06 July 2018 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have this evening announced the long-awaited signing of Barnsley midfielder Stevie Mallan.

Mallan, 22, has been linked with a move to Easter Road all summer, but the Hibees finally got their man today, and he became Hibs third signing of the summer.

The Hibees have splashed out a fee in the region of £200,000 to land the Scotland U21 international on a 4-year-deal.

Barnsley CEO Gauthier Ganaye also revealed that Barnsley have a sell-on clause in the deal, he said:

"When Stevie expressed a desire to go back to Scotland we knew it was a deal that could happen. Despite a small amount of game time with us, a profit has been made on the deal and we will retain an interest in Stevie’s future.”

Speaking to the official club website Mallan said:

“I am delighted to have signed for Hibs. It’s an exciting move for me – the club obviously had a good season last year and I want to be a part of that moving forward.

“I didn’t get much game time last year and I want to be back playing. The recruitment team at Hibs and the gaffer made me feel really wanted, which made me feel that this was the ideal place for me.

“It’ll be hard joining a team that’s been doing well but I’m looking forward to getting started and trying to get a place in the side and it’s a challenge that I’ll relish.

“I always enjoyed playing at Easter Road, it’s a great stadium when full and I’m sure it will be even better playing for the home side there.

“I’m just really pleased to have put pen to paper on the deal and I can’t wait to get started.”

Mallan becomes the Hibees third summer signing, following the captures of Flo Kamberi in a £100,000 deal from Grasshoppers and Liverpool goalkeeper Adam Bogdan on loan until the end of the season.

An excellent signing for the Hibees
