Hibs have today completed the transfer of Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley.
The 20-year-old has signed for the Hibees on loan until the end of the current season.
He is comfortable in central defence, defensive midfield or as a right back and will bring good versatility to the squad.
Egan-Riley started his career with Manchester City and made 3 appearances in the first team, including 90 minutes in the last 16 of the Champions League against Sporting Lisbon.
CJ also played once in the Premiership and once in the Cup.
He joined Burnley at the start of this season and has played 6 games, 3 in the Championship and 3 in the EFL Cup.
Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss Lee Johnson said:
“CJ is a top young talent, and we can’t wait to start working with him.
“He’s a player that Vincent Kompany took to Burnley after knowing his qualities from the Manchester City set-up.
“Due to Burnley’s positive form and performances this season, they have allowed him out to get important game-time, and as soon as we knew he was available, we were quick to snap up the opportunity.
“He provides us with extra versatility playing as a centre-half, number six, and as a right-back. We see this as an opportunity to help us improve, but also as a huge opportunity for him to develop.”
HIBS-MAD VIEW:
We have to admit, we have never heard of the kid, so we know nothing about him.
He has played some games at the highest level and reports seem to be positive.
We look forward to seeing him in the green.
Welcome to the Hibees CJ!
