Hibs have secured their first signing of transfer deadline day, with the capture of Middlesbrough striker Matthew Hoppe.
The USA international has joined the Hibees on loan until the end of the season, pending international clearance.
21-year-old Hoppe started his career with LA Galaxy, before winning a move to Germany with FC Schalke, where he became the first American to score a hat-trick in the Bundesliga.
He played 25 times scoring 6 goals, before he was transferred to La Liga side Real Mallorca in a 3.5m Euro deal.
Hoppe managed 6 appearances before signing for Middlesbrough this summer, signing a 4-year-deal.
He has been capped 8 times by the USA, the last one coming just a week ago against Colombia.
Hibs boss Lee Johnson, speaking on the official website, despite being in the dugout at Dingwall said:
“We’re delighted to add Matthew to the group as he’s someone that’ll add extra quality in the final third.
“He’s a talented player that can play in all three positions across our front-line and someone that joins with good experience being a full US international and that has played regularly in the Bundesliga.
“We look forward to working with him and welcome him to the Club.”
HIBS-MAD VIEW:
This one come from nowhere and it must be the first time a signing has been announced at half time - The Hibees currently 1-0 up against Ross County in Dingwall!!
He looks a good signing, Bundesliga and La Liga experience and a current international, and still only 21.
Welcome to the Hibees Matt!
