Hibs boss Colin Calderwood has today completed his sixth signing of the summer transfer window.

19-year-old striker Phil Airey has joined the Hibees on a six month loan deal, and will go straight in to the squad for this weekend's trip to Kilmarnock.

Airey nearly joined the Hibees on loan in January, but picked up a hamstring injury just as the deal was about to be finalised.

He has been a regular scorer for the Newcastle reserve side, and finsihed top goalscorer in his division last season.

The youngster will now fight it out with Akpo Sodje, Junior Agogo and Garry O'Connor for a place in the Hibees attack.

Airey is delighted to get the chance of firts team football, speaking to the official club wesbite, he said:

"I'm really pleased to be joining such a big club like Hibernian, and I look forward to challenging for a first team place.

"I love it at Newcastle, but I'm now at an age where I need to get first team football under my belt, and hopefully I'l achieve that with Hibernian."

Hibs boss Calderwood was also delighted, he said:

"We are pleased to be able to add Phil to the squad; he will offer us something different up front.

"Now with Akpo and Junior returning to full fitness, we will have serious competition for places in attack, and Phill will strengthen that even further.

"He is a quality player that I know from my time at Newcastle United, and he has been on our radar for quite some time.

"So we are pleased to get over the line and add another bit of qaulity to the squad."

Hibs only yesterday completed the signing of Villa midfielder Isaiah Osbourne on a two-year-deal, and have already landed Ivan Sproule, Garry O'Connor, Sean O'Hanlon and Junior Agogo, as Calderwood build his own team at Easter Road.
