Hibs have today, finally, confirmed their first signing of the January transfer window.

The Hibees have completed the signing of Sligo Rovers striker Owen Elding in a deal worth £400,000, that could rise, with add-ons, to £1m.

The 19-year-old has signed a 4-and-a-half-year deal at Easter Road, and becomes David Gray's first capture of the January transfer window.

6ft 2in Elding scored 16 goals last season, and was named PFA Irish Young Player of the Year, as well as making it into PFA Team of the Year.

Hibs have beaten off competition from across Europe to land the player, that includes Sturm Graz, who had a bid turned down not too long ago.

Elding should be in contention for the weekend clash with Rangers at Easter Road.

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

It's brilliant to finally see a signing through the door this January window.

This kid looks really exciting on paper, let's hope he can hit the ground running, and make a name for himself at the weekend.

The Irish market is one that we don't seem to use to often, and it seems there is a lot of talent across the water.

Maybe we could see more heading form the Emerald Isle to Easter Road in the future?
