Hibs have made their first signing of the summer, albeit for next season’s under 19 side.

Young Welsh goalkeeper Calum Antell has arrived at Easter Road on a two-year-deal.

17-year-old Antell will join up with his new team mates later this summer, after the Hibees beat Motherwell and bitter rivals Hearts to his signature.

The youngster has already spent two years on a scholarship with Swindon Town, and trained with Yeovil Town’s first team and impressed on both occasions.

He was also invited to join Glen Hoddle’s academy in Spain, but turned it down when he realised the three SPL clubs were after him.

Motherwell offered him a contract after a trial, and Hearts also made him an offer, but in the end he chose sunny Leith.

Hibernian-Mad understands it wasn't the thought of being kicked off a treadmill by a student, or the lack of 100 watt light bulbs that put him off a move to Tynecastle.

Speaking on his son’s upcoming move North, his father Andrew said:

“I think Calum has had his just rewards for all his hard work and dedication he has put in since leaving Ebbw Vale over two years ago.

“Hibs are a fantastic club, finishing fourth in the SPL and entering European football in the Europa League next season.

“Calum will be playing in the Under-19s league next season against the best that Celtic and Rangers, among others, can offer.

“Both these sides are full of Scottish internationals so he will have his work cut out, then the following year he will be challenging for a first team position.”

Welcome to Hibernian Calum.
