Hibs striker Derek Riordan overlooked for Scotland Squad

The Scotland squad for the European Championship qualifying double header against Spain and the Czech Republic was announced yesterday, with Hibs goal machine Derek Riordan once again over looked.

Despite scoring again at the weekend, with a wonder goal at Parkhead against Celtic, (His 82nd league goal for the club, and his 96th in all competitions) the three times capped forward missed out, for the third squad running.

Astonishingly, uncapped, injured, Englishman, Jamie Mackie has been called up, despite his manager at QPR, Neil Warnock, begging Scotland boss Craig Levein not to call him up due to problems with the 8 goal striker’s hamstrings.

27-year-old Riordan must be wondering what he has to do to get a chance at international level, when players like Chris Iwelumo (who missed the biggest sitter in Scottish international history) and unknown non Scots keep getting the call before him.
