Hibs striker Elias Melkersen has tonight joined Norwegian side Strømsgodset.

Melkersen, 20, will head back to his homeland for the rest of the Norwegian season, then return in January.

A fee for the loan will be heading to Easter Road.

The Hibees landed the talented youngster from Bodo/Glimt back in January 2022, for a fee reported to be in excess of £500,000, but he has struggled to hold down a regular spot in the first team.

Melkersen was loaned out to Dutch side Sparta Rotterdam last season, but he only managed 2 appearances before returning to Easter Road.

He has played 23 times for the men in green, scoring 3 goals.

Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss Lee Johnson said:

“Elias has all the attributes to be a top player but needs regular football to continue his development.

“This loan move allows him to gain that in a league and country he knows well. We want him to use this loan as an opportunity to showcase his ability, and come back an even better player in January after the loan concludes."

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

It's good to see Elias go out for regular game time back in his native Norway.

He has made sporadic appearances so far this season, but hasn't really had a run.

We've got to admit, we would have liked to have seen him go out on loan in the Scottish Championship and give him a season of first team football in this country.

However, moving back home may do him the world of good.
