Hibs to sign John McGinn

Last updated : 31 July 2015 By Steve Forbes

Hibs boss Alan Stubbs has today revealed that the club is set to land former St Mirren midfielder John McGinn.

The 20-year-old midfield dynamo is a free agent after leaving St Mirren at the end of his contract.

However, the Buddies are due a development fee, and had been said to be looking for £270,000.

According to reports from several media outlets, Hibs have agreed a fee of £120,000 for the Scotland U21 international.

McGinn has agreed a contract with the Hibees after being shown round the club's £5m East Mains Training Facility, and will sign pending a medical.

Speaking today, Hibs boss Alan Stubbs said:

"It's possibly too early for him (Montrose game), but the most important thing is that we've managed to get a quality signing and one of Scotland's brightest young players," said Stubbs.

"People will ask, is it a statement, but it's just the club looking to sign good players."

McGinn held talks with MLS side Houston Dynamo, and was linked with with Celtic, Hearts and a move to England, before his agreement with Hibs.

The Hibees have already signed Mark Oxley, Antonio Reguero, Danny Carmichael, Martin Boyle, Marvin Bartley, James Keatings and Fraser Fyvie, as well as extending the contracts of David Gray, Liam Fontaine and Lewis Stevenson as Alan Stubbs continues to build an exciting Hibs side.

It also seems Stubbs is not finished yet, with rumours circulating that the Hibees are close to landing former loan player Dylan McGeouch from Celtic and are also looking to add another defender to the squad.

A fantastic piece of business by the club.
