Hibs transfer news: Gow not coming, Barr offered deal

Last updated : 14 January 2010 By Steve Forbes

Hibs boss John Hughes has tonight commented on a couple of transfer deals splashed all over the paper, that involve the club.

The ex Falkirk manager has revealed that the Hibees are NOT interested in bringing Plymouth Argyle forward Alan Gow to Easter Road.

It had been muted that Hughes wanted to sign Gow on loan until the end of the season, with a view to a permanent summer transfer, but Hughes has moved to deny these claims, saying:

"It's a load of rubbish.

"Gow's a player that I've worked with and I like and, no doubt, I'd like to work with him again in the future.

"It's not an area we are looking to strengthen at this moment and time."

Hughes did however state that talks had taken place with Falkirk & Scotland defender Darren Barr, and that a 3-year-deal had been offered to the 24-year-old.

He said:

"It's not dead; it's up to Darren.

"No matter what Darren does, I wish him all the best."

He added: "If it's not Darren Barr, it'll be somebody else.

"He could possibly come here on a three-year contract and we could make him a better player.

"I think he needs a better stage - no disrespect to Falkirk.

"We've given it our best shot.

"It's so simple: he's entitled to do what he does; we're entitled to do what we do.

"If you cannot agree then the two of you go and look elsewhere."
