Hibs youngster Ethan Laidlaw heads to Leeds United on trial

Last updated : 14 March 2021 By Steve Forbes

Youngs Hibs striker Ethan Laidlaw has apparently joined English Premiership side Leeds United on trial.

Reports, which apparently started with twitter account @leedsutdacademy(lfcyouth), state that the 16-year-old forward has travelled to Yorkshire, to spend a week at Leeds' Thorp Arch training ground.

Laidlaw recently signed his first professional contract with the Hibees, but he may not stay long, with the English side eyeing a summer swoop if the trial goes well.

He could also join fellow academy graduate, Murray Johnson, who also, only recently, signed his first professional deal, which was announced on the same day, and who is about to seal a £250,000 switch to Wolves.

Johnson also attracted the interest of Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City, with City handing him a week long trial.

Again, like Johnson, this could be an incredible move for the kid.

He has to remember though, he is only 16, should he win a contract, he will be a long way from first team football.

However, money talks, Leeds could probably tempt him south to their academy, with the likes of wages Hibs pay their first team.

That type of cash would be hard to turn down at such a young age.
