Hibs youngster Ethan Laidlaw set to join Watford

According to "The Athletic", Hibs are set to lose wonderkid striker Ethan Laidlaw.

The 18-year-old has already revealed that he is leaving Easter Road, and it's now been confirmed he has turned down a new contract and is on the verge of move to English Championship side Watford.

Laidlaw has been a shining light in the academy in recent years and big things were expected of him, but he has chosen to leave his boyhood club without making an appearance.

The Scotland U19 international has had numerous trials over the last few years with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United, and recently earned rave reviews as the Hibees progressed through the Uefa Youth League.

However, because of his age, the Vicarage Road side will need to pay the Hibees compensation, with it looking like the fee will be around £250,000.

The report suggests a deal is nearly complete and an annoucement is close.

HIBS-MAD VIEW:

A big blow to lose the kid, he was highly impressive and scored a lot of goals for the 18's,19's and DV side.

However, if he won't sign a contract what can the club do?

The big fear for the kid is that he dissapears in one of these massive academy's down south and just becomes another number.

How many youngsters do we now see leaving English U23 football and coming here for game time?

Good luck to Ethan, he has the talent to make the breakthrough, however, we have a feeling he could become just another cog in a massive machine.
