Last updated : 15 November 2022 By Steve Forbes

Sad reports coming out of Easter Road today, with the news that Hibs legend Jimmy O'Rourke has passed away aged 76.

Part of the incredible Turnbull's Tornadoes side of the 1970's, Jimmy broke into the Hibs side as a kid, and become the club's youngest ever player when he made his debut against Utrecht in Europe in 1962, a title he held until 2004, when Jamie McCluskey made his debut against Killie at Rugby Park.

Incredibly, just three days later, he scored against Dunfermline, to become the club's youngest ever goalscorer, at just 16 years old, a record he still holds to this day!!

O'Rourke went on to play 325 games for the club, scoring 121 goals and is currently NINTH in the Hibees all time goal-scoring list.

His goals included the winning goal against Celtic in the 1972 League Cup Final.

Two goals as the Hibees also beat Celtic in the Drybrough Cup Final in 1972

Two goals as the Hibees battered Hearts 0-7 in the Edinburgh Derby at Tynecastle in 1973.

A hat-trick against Sporting Lisbon in the European Cup Winners Cup in 1973, as the Hibees ran out 6-1 winners at Easter Road to qualify for the Quarter Finals.

He also scored another European treble against Albanian side FC Besa.

Unbelievably he was NEVER capped by Scotland!!!

Hibs sold him to St Johnstone in 1974, causing uproar amongst the club's support.

He impressed with the Saints, scoring 25 times in two seasons, but was transferred to Motherwell when they were relegated.

His spell at Fir Park was also stellar, scoring 16 times in 50 games.

Jimmy was inducted into the Hibs Hall of Fame in 2012.

A true icon.

Rest in Peace Jimmy
