Keeper Chris Maxwell to leave Hibs

Last updated : 08 January 2020 By Steve Forbes

Hibs boss Jack Ross has today revealed that on loan keeper Chris Maxwell has asked to leave.

The 29-year-old is on loan from English side Preston North End, but having been ousted from the first team at Easter Road, now wants to leave.

Maxwell managed 12 appearances for the Hibees, but lost his place after a poor showing in the 5-2 Betfred Cup Semi Final defeat to Celtic at Hampden.

With Hibs having also re-signed Adam Bogdan, who is expected to sign a new deal in the coiming days, Maxwell looks to have played his last game for the club.

Speaking form the Hibees winter training base, Jack Ross said:

“In terms of goalkeepers we are in an unusual situation in that at the end of last month we had three senior goalkeepers who all want to be first choice.

“Chris has intimated that, having found himself out of the team, that he’d prefer to go and play regular first-team football. So the clubs are in the process of trying to find something that will suit him. And that would hopefully leave us with a situation where we would have Adam in along with Ofir until the end of the season.

“It’s slightly unusual in that it’s not quite settled yet but hopefully that will be the case.”

Editor's View:

This is not surprising, Maxwell has looked suspect all season, and hasn't really stood out.

He has two better keepers in-front of him now, so the loan deal looks a waste of time for all parties.

It would also free up a wage for manager Jack Ross to use to bolster his squad.
