Mixu's last act as Hibs boss - goalkeeper Andy McNeil released!

Last updated : 17 June 2009 By Steve Forbes

A bit of news that seems to have slipped under the radar, is the last act to be carried out by ex Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen.

Just before Mixu left Easter Road, it seems he axed goalkeeper Andy McNeil, a move which wasn't unexpected.

The 22-year-old was signed from Southampton by former boss Tony Mowbray and played 40+ games for Hibs.

Including the Hibees victorious CIS Cup run in 2007, with the club lifting the cup at Hampden, with a 5-1 win over Kilmarnock, in front of 30,000 Hibs supporters in a 52,000 sell-out crowd.

McNeil only had a contract until the end of last season, and after some poor display's Paatelainen decided to release the player.

McNeil joins Fabian Yantorno, Blair Tolmie, Denes Rosa, Grzegorz Szamotulski, Steven Pinau and Ross Chisholm out of the Easter Road exit door.

There is no news, as of yet, as to where the ex Scotland U21 goalkeeper could end up.

Hibernian-Mad would like to take this opportunity to thank Andy for his service at the club.

A Hibs supporting, Cup winning goalkeeper.
