Young Garry O'Connor saw his dream season get even better when, as expected, he was called into the Scotland squad to face Nigeria at Pittodrie on April 17. On loan defender Gary Caldwell was also included after giving a decent account in the clash versus France last month.

Other players called up for the first time were Gareth Williams of Notts Forest, Michael Stewart of Manchester United, and Graham Alexander of Preston North End.

Former Hibee Stevie Crawford also made it into the squad.

The full squad is:

Goalkeepers

Robert Douglas (Celtic)
Paul Gallacher (Dundee United)
Neil Sullivan (Tottenham Hotspur)

Defenders

Gary Caldwell (Newcastle United - on loan to Hibernian)
Stephen Crainey (Celtic)
Christian Dailly (West Ham United)
Callum Davidson (Leicester City)
Dominic Matteo (Leeds United)
Kevin McNaughton (Aberdeen)
Maurice Ross (Rangers)
David Weir (Everton)

Midfielders

Graham Alexander (Preston North End)
Barry Ferguson (Rangers)
Scot Gemmill (Everton)
Stephen Hughes (Rangers)
Paul Lambert (Celtic)
Michael Stewart (Manchester United)
Robbie Stockdale (Middlesbrough)
Gareth Williams (Nottingham Forest)

Forwards

Stephen Crawford (Dunfermline Athletic)
Paul Dickov (Leicester City)
Allan Johnston (Middlesbrough)
Neil McCann (Rangers)
Garry O'Connor (Hibernian)
Steven Thompson (Dundee United)

On a darker note, Grant Brebner saw his season cut short after a scan revealed he has broken a small bone in his foot. The former Man United and Reading player had been hoping to break into Bobby Williamson's midfield, but will now miss the final four games of the season. He joins Ian Murray on the sidelines, who looked a good bet to be included in the Scotland squad to face the Super Eagles before his injury.
