Rotherham interested in Hibs striker Jason Cummings

It's being reported in a number of today's tabloids that Rotherham have either already made contact, or are about to, over the availability of Hibs striker Jason Cummings.

The 20-year-old is currently in discussions about extending his contract at Easter Road, which has a year left on it, with Hibs boss Neil Lennon confident he can hold on to the prolific hitman.

Cummings has been attracting the interest of a number of clubs, including Leeds Utd, Cardiff City, Swansea City, Middlesbrough & Turkish side Trabzonspor amongst others.

However, it now seems former Hibs boss Stubbs is keen to step up interest in a player he managed for the last two seasons.

Hibs are under no pressure to sell, and it would take a bid well in excess of Rotherham's record transfer of £300,000 for the club to even contemplate selling, especially with promotion back to the SPL a must this season.

Speaking to the press, Hibs boss Neil Lennon said:

“I’m hoping to get the Cummings negotiations finished off quick. If we can, that will be another boost to the squad.

“We’re under no pressure to sell him so I’m not worried about any rumours at all.

“If we can keep him it means we’ve got a 25-goal striker in our ranks, which will be very important if we want to get out of the Championship.

“I think he’s happy here and he knows he’s wanted. I’m still getting to know him but he has an infectious personality. He has got a wee bit of the rascal about him, which I don’t mind. It makes him the player he is.”

Cummings has scored 48 goals in 108 games for the Hibees, and was top goalscorer, with 25 goals last season, as the Hibees lifted the Scottish Cup.
