Some more sad news regarding ex Hibs players has reached us here at Hibernian-Mad HQ.

Hot on the heels of the tragic deaths of former Hibs stars Bobby Smith and Alan Gordon, it has been revealed that another ex Hibbys has passed away.

Former Inside Left Sammy Baird has died at the age of 79.

Baird played for the Hibees for two years between 1960 and 1962, playing in the famous Hibs side that knocked Barcelona out of the Fairs Cup in 1961, going on to make the Semi Final, before losing a decider to Roma, after initially drawing 5-5 on aggregate with the Italian side.

He joined the Hibees from Rangers for £5,000 and went on to make 39 appearances for the club.

Baird also played for Preston North End, Stirling Albion and Third Lanark.

He was also capped seven times for Scotland at international level.

A minutes applause is expected to be held at Easter Road on Sunday, ahead of the SPL clash with Rangers.

Our thoughts go out to his family and friends at this difficult time.
