Former Chelsea assistant manager Steve Clarke today confirmed that he was contaced by Hibs about the manager's job at Easter Road.
Clarke was odds-on favourite for the job at the bookies, and there was even rumours doing the rounds that Clarke had taken the job, with Scotland U21 boss Billy Stark as his assistant.
Hibs, of course, plumped for former Northampton and Nottingham Forest boss Colin Calderwood, who they appointed on a three-year-contract.
Clarke said:
"I did have a brief telephone discussion with the Hibs chairman.
"It didn't go any further than that. That was as far as it went. There was no further progress from a 10 minute telephone conversation.
"There was no big hidden agenda. How I ended up favourite with the bookmakers, I don't know. You'd have to ask someone from Edinburgh about that."
