Steven Fletcher - Are Hibs set for a sell-on windfall??

Last updated : 28 May 2010 By Steve Forbes

Ex Hibs forward Steve Fletcher is a wanted man tonight, with the news that a number of clubs have tabled bids for the talented Scotland international.

According to numerous press reports, West Ham, Birmingham City, Bolton Wanderers, Wolves, Blackburn Rovers, West Brom and Newcastle United are all interested in the former Hibee.

Fletcher was a massive hit in his first season at Turf Moor, scoring 14 goals in all competitions, and is now attracting a lot of interest.

Wolves have apparently tabled a £7m bid for the 23-year-old, and Birmingham City £7.5m, with the rest monitoring the situation.

It begs the question, do Hibs have a sell-on clause in the original deal, that took Fletch to Turf Moor in a £3m transfer last summer???

One morning tabloid had the club down as having a 15% add-on, but reports at the time of his move south to Burnley from the Hibees, AND amongst the Burnley support have us with a 25% sell-on clause.

If true, Hibs would be due £1.875m of a 25% sell-on, which is a superb piece of business, and would hopefully boost John Hughes’ summer re-building plans at Easter Road.

Hibs chairman Rod Petrie is famous for his hard bargaining style when selling on players who have come through the Easter Road youth system, and it seems  that he has worked his magic again.

Let’s hope a bidding war starts, which could lead to the club landing a massive bounty ahead of the new SPL season.
