Who will replace Mixu Paatelainen as Hibs boss?????

Last updated : 31 May 2009 By Steve Forbes

A number of names have popped up over the last few days as Hibs look to replace former boss Mixu Paatelainen.

Paatelainen resigned from his post on Friday night, and the Hibees have begun the process to find his successor.

Falkirk manager John Hughes became the early front runner with the former Hibs captain leading his club to the Scottish Cup Final, which they lost 1-0 to Rangers.

Other names to be linked with the post over the last few days are Hamilton gaffer Billy Reid, St Mirren boss Gus McPherson and former Hibs midfielder Michael O'Neill, currently at Shamrock Rovers.

Former Hibs No2 Mark Venus would be a popular choice amongst the Hibs support, and it's understood Venus is still a regular visitor to Easter Road, despite following Tony Mowbray to West Brom.

The odds on Venus becoming manager were slashed yesterday by one leading bookmakers from 9/1 down to 3/1.

Even more intriguing is that the wife and kids of Venus are thought to still live, work and go to school in Edinburgh.....

Jimmy Calderwood, who left Aberdeen last week, is another who's name has been mentioned, and Calderwood refused to rule himself out of the running in the press this week.

Other names being banded about are ex Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Ince, Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock and even ex Hearts bosses Craig Levein at Dundee Utd and Jim Jeffries at Kilmarnock!!!

Another one from the rumour mill coming the way of Hibs-Mad, is that Gordon Strachan has already agreed to take over as Scotland boss and that George Burley will take over the Easter Road hot seat.

Today even former Leyton Orient boss Martin Ling threw his hat in the ring, saying:

"I haven't spoken to anyone at Hibs since Mixu resigned.

"All I can say is that I am a manager who is out of work and of course I would be interested in a top job like Hibs.

"I will be speaking to the chairman when I return from holiday to see where we go from here."

Whatever happens, it's going to be an interesting couple of weeks as the Hibees replace Mixu.
