Jones, 29, has been an absolute rock in the centre of defence for the Hibees, in what turned out to be a dissapointing season at Easter Road.

The 6ft 7in Englishman has proved just how good a player he is this season, with some fantastic performances.

So good are his displays in a Hibs shirt, that it seems unlikely that Jones will be at Easter Road beyond the summer.

Nottingham Forest, Derby County, Bristol City and Colchester United all remain big admirers of the Hibs captain, and bids of around £1m are expected in the coming weeks.

Jones joined the Hibees from Grimsby Town in the summer of 2006 for £150,000, he went on to captain the club to the 2007 Scottish League Cup, with a 5-1 demolition of Kilmarnock in the Hampden snow.

He has now gone on to make over 100 apperances in a Hibs shirt.

Jones becomes the fifth player to land our now annual award.

The previous winners were:

2004/05 - Garry O'Connor
2005/06 - David Murphy
2006/07 - Abdessalam Benjelloun
2007/08 - Chris Hogg
