The votes are in, they have been counted and verified, and
www.Hibernian-mad.co.uk is delighted to announce that our 2008/09 Young Player of the Year is KURTIS BYRNE.

Normally we only include players who have made at least one first team appearance, but due to the success of the club's all conquering U19 side this season, we included the players promoted to the first team next season, and who were involved in the treble winning season.

Our previous winners have been:

2006/07 - Lewis Stevenson
2007/08 - Steven Fletcher

Kurtis Byrne fought off a strong challenge from our 2006/07 winner Lewis Stevenson, who had an excellent season and looks back to the form of the "Louey" we all know and love.

Byrne collected 36.8% of the vote, with Stevenson picking up 23.5%.

Darren McCormack came in a distant third with 7.4%

Byrne had an excellent season for the U19's, finishing top goalscorer, scoring some important one's along the way.

The last minute winner against Motherwell, in the last game of the season, to clinch the SPL U19 title, a double at Hampden, including another last minute winner in the Scottish FA Youth Cup Final at Hampden against Rangers.

Also scoring the Hibs goal in the 1-1 draw with Hearts in the East of Scotland Shield Final, a game the Hibees went on to win on penalties, completing a fantastic treble.

Well done Kurtis.

Here is how the final poll looked:
