It has been reported that Gary Caldwell could still be playing for Hibs next season. The defender, on loan from Newcastle United, is out of contract this summer and does not want to return to St James' Park to sit in the stands.

Gary in action for Hibs

Becasue he is under 24, compensation would have to be paid to Newcastle if he does sign with another club, and with his new status as a full international, that amount would more than likely be out of Hibs' range.

Celtic, Coventry City, & Everton have all expressed an interest in Gary, but Magpies' boss Bobby Robson is keen to hold onto the youngster, earmarking him as one for the future.

This could be good news to Hibs. If he does sign a new contract with the Tyneside club, all parties could be kept happy with a season long loan deal. Hibs would get a good young defender for the season, Newcastle would have one of their promising youngsters gaining first team experience, and Gary would continue to have regular first team football, thus keeping him in the spotlight for the national side.

With the very good chance that few new faces arrive at Easter Road this coming close season, this would be a welcome addition to Bobby Williamsons squad for next season.
