Hibs in talks with Darren McGregor

Last updated : 25 August 2015 By Steve Forbes

Hibs have today moved quickly to talk to defender Darren McGregor, after he was freed by the Rangers.

The 30-year-old had his contract terminated by mutual consent just this morning, after one year with the Glasgow side.

McGregor, a lifelong Hibs supporter, played over 39 games last season, and was voted the Rangers Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.

Hibs are said to be close to signing the player, with the talks at an advanced stage at East Mains today, and the player, who doesn't have an agent, keen on signing for his boyhood heroes.

McGregor started his career with Cowdenbeath in 2004, but dopped out the professional game in 2006 to play for Arniston Rangers.

Former Hibs midfielder Danny Lennon took McGregor back to Cowdebeath in 2008, then took the player with him when he took charge at St Mirren in 2010. He played over 80 games in his two spells with fife club.

McGregor spent 4 years with the Paisley club, making nearly 100 appearances.

It now seems McGregor will become Hibs 10th summer signing.
