Hibs have today announed the signing of veteran Scotland defender Grant Hanley.

The 33-year-old has signed on a free transfer after leaving newly promoted English side Birmingham City and has signed a 2-year-deal at Easter Road.

Hanley becomes the 5th summer signing for the Hibees.

Speaking to the official club website, Hibs boss David Gray said:

“It’s great to be able to bring Grant to the Club. He’s performed at a top-level throughout his career and has a real desire to compete at the highest level in his home nation.

“He’s a strong, robust defender that can play in any role across our back three. He’s a real leader both on and off the pitch and a player of his experience will add a lot to the team. I look forward to working with him.”

Hanley started his career with Blackburn Rovers, before moving to Newcastle United.

His spell at St James' Park was short and he left to sign for Norwich City after just one season, before joining Birmingham last season

He has played over 430 times during his career and has been capped 62 times by Scotland.

HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW

A big name signing for the Hibees.

Hanley will bring plenty experience having played at the top level and gives David Gray another option at the back.

Should Hibs progress into group stage European football, he could prove an excellent signing.

Welcome to Easter Road Grant!!!
