Fletcher, 19, has made good progress since breaking into the first team just under two seasons ago under Tony Mowbray.

It was recentley reported that Everton boss Davie Moyes was going to offer £2m for the striker in the January transfer window.

Fletcher has had a good start to the season at international level scoring 8 goals for the Scotland U-19 side on route to the Uefa U19's Championship final.

The hitman also has a cracking record for Hibs, scoring 16 goals in 36 games, he hit 10 last season.

Hibs boss Tony Mowbray said of today's news:

"Steven has been in and around the fringes. He's had a very limited number of starts but he has come off the bench and showed he can and will score goals - last season he got into double figures."

"There are still parts of his game that need working on and developing," he said.

"He needs to mature in certain parts of his game but there are no fears for his talent and it is only right that the club secures that talent.

"Steven has all the attributes, he's good in the air, has a wonderful left foot, he's tall, strong and athletic and he will get plenty of game time this season. But at the same time we are not pinning our hearts on him being the main man although I am sure somewhere down the line he will be a focal point of our attack."
