Jack may stay in Edinburgh

Hibs hardman Mathais Jack has talked about his worries of not having a new contract on his return to Edinburgh - but at least he knows he'll have a roof over his head!

Matty is expected back this weekend, as is the rest of the squad with the exception of World Cup participant Ulises de la Cruz to return to pre season training on July 4. Jack has been back home in Germany, and on holiday in Greece, but still hasn't had any word about a new deal to keep him at Hibs.

Mathais told The Mail on Sunday: "The whole situation is quite difficult. I'm trying to relax and switch off but it's not so easy when your future is uncertain. If I knew that I would be starting training with Hibs on July 4 then that would be all I needed to know."

Hoping to still be wearing the green next season
The former Fortuna Dusseldorf player continued: "I'm wondering and thinking about it all the time. That's five weeks now that I've been waiting on a phone call from Rod Petrie to say that he has the green light to offer me a contract and that the money is there. But I can do nothing about it. I just have to wait and see what's going to happen next. I'm glad that Bobby Williamson phoned me last week when he came back from holiday and said he was still keen to keep me. That was nice of him and I certainly hope something can be sorted out."

Despite there being a good few players that have left ER recently, the lack of money through no TV deal as yet may well scupper Matty's chances of playing for Hibs next season. The cold hard facts are that we are quite well covered in midfield. With O'Neil, Jarkko Wiss, Freddy Arpinon, Derek Townsley, and Grant Brebner all fighting for first team games, not to mention young players like Mark Dempsie and Kevin Nicol coming through, it doesn't look good for the popular German. In my opinion, and it's nothing to do with Jack's ability, when we have so much cover in one area, we should maybe look at strengthening elsewhere.

With all the uncertanty surrounding his Hibs career, it looks like Matty will me moving house anyway.

"I congratulated Craig Brewster when I heard he had signed for Dunfermline and called to say I hoped I'd face him four times next season, but I don't know"(Oi! Matty! We want a top six finish mate! - ed)

"It's a waiting game. I must get back to Edinburgh anyway. I either have to move out of my apartment becauase my contract expires and take the rest of my stuff with me. Maybe I'll get the chance to speak to Bobby in person in midweek. Mixu phoned me to say it was the same situation for him last summer before he moved to Strasbourg. He's back in Edinburgh, having bought a house, and offered me a place to stay with him for a start."

Whatever happens Mathais, you've been a fantastic player and a loyal servant for us, and if you can't continue your love affair with Hibs next season, all the very best for the future mate.
