Hibs made a great start as they took the lead after six minutes after the diabolical defending or Motherwell.

Derek Adams made a hash of his clearance and Alan Reid layed the ball on for Kevin Nicol to beat Gordon Marshall for his premier hibernian strike.

Hibs' width caused Motherwell vast problems and another excellent cross from Reid picked out Tom McManus after 19 minutes, but he failed to connect with a shot.

Alex Burns had Motherwell's first effort on target after half-an-hour, but Daniel Andersson comfortably dealt with his free-kick to push the ball to safety. A save that would have earned the big Swede's confidenc after Sunday's distaster.

37 minutes in, Hibs moved 2-0 up when a McManus cross picked out the unmarked Reid and he nodded the ball beyond the dispairing Gordon Marshall.

Andersson came to Hibs' rescue again after Adams played Keith Lasley clear but the goalkeeper was out swiftly to clear his lines.

Half Time 2-0

Lasley pulled a goal back right after half time with a shot that took a deflection before flying beyond Andersson.
Before Hibs had time to recover, Adams equalised from the penalty spot after McDonald was fouled in the area by Colin Murdock.

Hibs were then given a penalty when Nicol was fouled by Kinniburgh and Derek Riordan swept the ball into the top corner of the net.

Scott Brown came close with a well-struck shot which dipped agonisingly just over the crossbar.

Motherwell snatched a point with ten minutes left when McDonald's shot took a deflection off Doumbe, hit the crossbar and rebounded off Andersson and into the net.
