O'Connor targeted by Rangers and Leeds United

SPL Rivals Rangers are said to be ready to make a bid for Scotland star Garry O'Connor.

Reports say that former boss Alex McLeish wants to take the 19 year old hotshot to Ibrox as he tries to beef up his forward line. English Premiership sides Leeds United, Aston Villa and Southampton are also said to be in the hunt.

Garry O'Connor
I hope this is the only blue Garry wears!
Young Garry had an amazing season despite our troubles last year, going from reserve striker to international star, netting nine goals on the way. He also matched Gordon Rae's 20 year old record by scoring in 5 consecutive games for us.

It was McLeish who secured O'Connor on a five year deal, and now would love to make the youngster part of his rebuilding plans in Glasgow. It's thought that with the current cash crisis in Scottish football, Hibs would find it difficult to turn down an offer in the region of £2m. If Rangers do make a bid, they would most certainly have competition from England, with many Premiership sides having Garry watched during the last few months of the season.

The interest in Garry mirrors the Kenny Miller situation of a couple of seasons ago. Kenny had a great season for us and this prompted interest from other clubs. Naturally Rangers couldn't have a decent young player outside the OF but still in Scotland, so they made their move and got him for £2m.

Hibs fans said Kenny would be mad to swap regular first team football for sitting on the bench most weeks, but his mind coldn't be changed. Sure enough, he hardly got a game in Govan, and was farmed out to Wolves on loan. The Midlands club made the move permanent, but Kenny has been unable to recreate that goalscoring form he had with us, and fell out of the picture for them as well.

Kenny went from the fringes of the Scotland team to the fringes of an English first division team. Garry, think about what's best for your career and stay a while. You know it makes sense!
