Hibs manager Tony Mowbray has made enquires about Celtic defender Stanislav Varga.
Hibs captain Gary Caldwell has signed a pre-contract with Celtic and it is thought that Hibs may push the deal through if they get Varga in the transfer window.
Varga is a commanding centre-back, signed by Peter Reid for Sunderland for £650,000 from Slovan Bratislava during the summer of 2000, he then moved to Celtic on a free in January 2003.
Varga is 34 and has gained over 50 caps for Slovakia.
With the signing of Oumar Konde already in the bag, if they complete the deal for Varga, it will be the second big commanding centre half signed in the transfer window.
