Hibernian 2-0 St Mirren- Match Report

Hibernian beat St Mirren to keep grip at the top of the Scottish Championship

Leaders Hibernian powered on at the top of the Ladbrokes Championship with a comfortable 2-0 home win over bottom side St Mirren.

Hibs needed just seven minutes to take the lead with Martin Boyle opening the scoring with a fine dinked finish from Andrew Shinnie's through-ball.

Jamie Langfield did well to deny Shinnie and Boyle as Hibs started to dominate but the Saints keeper was powerless to prevent Grant Holt making it 2-0 in the 33rd minute, the veteran striker smashing in from the edge of the area.

Jason Naismith missed a chance to get Saints back into the game at the start of the second half, his header easy for Ofir Marciano, and Hibs were soon back on the attack.

Boyle, Holt and John McGinn all went close to increasing the home side's lead before Langfield performed more heroics to keep out Holt's 74th-minute penalty, awarded for a foul on the 35-year-old by Gary Irvine.

That miss mattered little to the result, though, as Hibs remained three points cleat at the summit.
