Hibs' Kiwi striker Chris Killen killed off Dunfermline with a second-half double at Easter Road.
He scored a wonderful opener after 63 minutes and then sealed Dunfermline's fate nine minutes later from the penalty spot after Sol Bamba had handled.
In the opening minutes David Murphy galloped at the Dunfermline defence which invitingly stood off but his shot was wayward.
Hibs then put together a superb flowing move with Jamie McCluskey and Steven Whittaker combining to set up Steven Fletcher at the back post but his volley across goal found no takers.
Scott Brown wasted a great chance to put Hibs ahead when Dorus de Vries put McCluskey cross into his path but he sent his shot well wide from 16 yards.
Another slick Hibs move came to nothing when, after some inspired build-up play between Michael Stewart and McCluskey, Fletcher sent the final cross behind Killen.
Stewart shot tamely wide shortly before the interval after Dunfermline failed to clear a Shelton Martis free-kick with any conviction.
Killen finally broke the deadlock when he took a pass from Scott Brown and turned Phil McGuire on the edge of the box before slotting the ball home.
Four minutes later, de Vries denied him a second when he managed to get his hand to his net-bound shot but was injured in the process and was replaced by Roddy McKenzie.
McKenzie had to pick the ball out of his net in the 72nd minute when Killen converted a penalty after Bamba had stupidly handled.
