Derek Riordan gave Hibs their first win of the year at Easter Road with a superb double.

The young substitute notched two second-half goals to take the game out of Aberdeen's reach to end a difficult week on a high.

It was revealed earlier in the week that Hibs are to offload many first-team players in the summer due to lack of cash.

But it did not put them off their stride as they won this with room to spare.

After an early scare when Nick Colgan produced an acrobatic save to keep out a Leigh Hinds' header, Hibs took control.

The home side lost both of their strikers Garry O'Connor and Tom McManus inside the first half-hour through injury, but replacements Riordan and Scott Brown gave them a new lease of life.

When Brown headed a free-kick from Roirdan against the crossbar in the 41st minute, Mathias Jack headed home the opener.

Janos Matyus came within inches of a second early in the second half but his close-in header drifted wide.

Riordan nabbed his first when he volleyed in a great cross from Brown in the 61st minute.

Eleven minutes later, he killed off the Dons with another shot from close range after Brown had been denied by Peter Kjaer.

Hibs wilted in the closing minutes as Aberdeen pressed forward to try and get something from the game.

It came two minutes from time when Fergus Tiernan raced into the box to flick the ball over Nick Colgan for a consolation strike.
