Hibernian 5 St. Mirren 1

Hibs put on a five-star performance to sink hopeless St Mirren, who are now in the bottom two.

And without transfer-seeking midfielders Kevin Thomson and Scott Brown, Hibs proved that their squad is strong enough to handle their departures in January.

Stand-in midfielder Dean Shiels was a stand-out for Hibs as he displayed a tremendous range of passes and subtle flicks.

Hibs had threatened on a number of occasions before breaking the deadlock after 21 minutes with a delightful move involving Merouane Zemmama, Steven Fletcher and Guillaume Beuzelin, who finished things off with a low shot in off the post.

And a moment of magic from Shiels created the second as he held off a couple of challenges and slipped a slide-rule pass into the path of Chris Killen who toe-poked home his 10th league goal of the season.

But despite all their possession Hibs' leaky defence threw Saints a lifeline before half-time.

Scott Gemmill out-jumped Rob Jones and John Sutton ran on to his flick to slide home a low finish.

But Hibs were back on the front foot after the break and Shiels increased their advantage with a cracking shot from 25 yards that left Tony Bullock helpless.

And Hibs' Moroccan contingent combined for goals four and five as the Easter Road side ran riot.

Abdessalam Benjelloun chased Beuzelin's through ball and cut it back for Zemmama to score from 12 yards and then Zemmama turned provider as he cut Saints open for Benjelloun to curl a low finish in at the far post.
