A share of the points was fair reward for two teams who tried hard but were unable to produce much in the way of fine football.

Thistle almost gave Hibs the lead after only three minutes when Brown beat Langfield to a short pass back. The ball broke to McManus but his six yard header was cleared off the line by Ross.

There were no further chances until 17 minutes when McManus fired a 20 yard volley just the wrong side of the Thistle crossbar. One minute later Brown headed against the bar from close range after Langfield flapped at Reid's cross.

Thistle had to wait a full 27 minutes before their first effort on goal when Milne fired a 25 yard free kick which was well saved by Anderson.

The second half began with Thistle in a more determined mood and they almost took the lead on 48 minutes when following good work by Thomson, Milne's shoot hit the base of the far post. The rebound fell to Bonnes, who should have done better than blast well over from only 14 yards out.

Thistle were forced into a change after 56 minutes when Milne had to go off injured and his replacement, Fleming, almost scored with his first touch when he fired a 25 yard free kick high towards the top corner but Anderson saved well.

The game came alight on 68 minutes when Murdock rose above his defender to connect with a Thompson free kick and his looping header went over Langfield into the Thistle net.

Hibs celebration had hardly died down when on 70 minutes Thomson fouled Rowson inside the box and Thomson made no mistake from the spot.

Both sides tried hard to get a winner with Hibs looking the more likely and Riordan should have done better on 80 minutes when he headed weakly and the same player two minutes later made Langfield pull off a good save with a 16 yard volley.

However, the stalemate was not broken and a share of the points can be seen by both sides as a fair result.
