Hibs have today confirmed the signing of Manchester United midfielder Jacob Devaney.
The 19-year-old has signed for the Hibees on loan until the end of the season, with the option to buy included in the deal.
Ireland U21 international Delaney spent a spell on loan in the Scottish Premiership with St Mirren last season, and clearly left an impression on Hibs boss David Gray.
Hibs are said to have beaten off a number of clubs in England and Europe for his signature.
Speaking to the official club website, Gray said:
“We’re really pleased to bring Jacob to the Club. He already has experience of Scottish football and knows the demands of the Premiership, which will be important as he settles into the squad.
“He’s a technically talented young international footballer who is keen to learn and develop, and we’re looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the group.
“To have him join before the end of the window is really positive, and we’ll look to get him settled in as quickly as possible.”
HIBERNIAN-MAD VIEW:
This looks a very solid and exciting signing for the Hibees, and hopefully Jacob hits the ground running.
He knows the Scottish Premiership, having impressed last season with St Mirren, and looks the kind of player we have been crying out for, who can put his foot on the ball.
Hibs have shown ambition as well, by including a fee to buy.
However, the Hibees midfield is now overloaded, and we can see a few players leaving before the transfer window closes.
The likes of the invisible man Alasana Manneh and injury ravaged captain Joe Newell may find themselves looking for a new club.
Youngsters Jacob McIntyre and Rudi Molotnikov may also need to find themselves a loan deal.
The Hibees already have Jamie McGrath, Josh Campbell, Josh Mulligan, Miguel Chaiwa along with new signings Callum Wright and Azeem Abdulai fighting it out for a starting spot in midfield.
