English Championship side Burnley have joined the race for Hibs midfield dynamo Dean Shiels.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland internationalist is well known to Burnley boss Owen Coyle, who played in Scotland for a number of years and also managed first division side St Johnstone.

Shiels is out of contract at the end of the season and can talk to interested clubs when the transfer window opens on January 1st 2009, about possible pre-contract moves from Easter Road.

Burnley will face competition for Shiels signature, should he turn down a new deal at the Hibees, with Rangers, Plymouth Argyle, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City said to be interested.

Shiels has played over 120 games for the Hibees, scoring 22 goals in the process, since joining from Arsenal in 2004 and has been capped 7 times for Northern Ireland at international level.
