According to various news reports today, Hibs have jumped to the front of the queue to sign James Maclean.
The Hibees are apparently close securing a loan deal until the summer for the SV Darmstadt 98 striker.
Maclean, 24, has already held talks with Hearts, but Hibs are now favourites to land the Australian international.
Reports from Germany claim that Maclean has been left out of SV Darmstadt's winter training camp squad, and is in "final negotiations" with a club over a loan deal - with tabloids here hinting it's Hibs.
He has struggled for game time with the Bundesliga II side, and is desperate for a move to help force his way into the Aussies World Cup squad this coming summer.
