Hibs' Dean Shiels speaks of sick chants from St Mirren fans!

Hibs midfielder has today spoken of the disgusting chants aimed at him by the St Mirren fans during Saturday's 0-0 draw at Love Street.

The 23-year-old Northern Ireland internationalist had an operation to remove one of his eyes a couple of years ago, following a build up of pain in the eye he injured as a child in a freak accident.

St Mirren supporters directed their sick chants towards the player throughout the game, and when he was substituted with 10 minutes to go, he was again subjected to some sick comments, to which he reacted to and had to be held back by Hibs assistant manager Donald Park.

Shiels has been targeted about his glass eye at a number of grounds, including Tynecastle and Tannadice over the last few years and was also targeted by Motherwell fans during the last game of last season at Easter Road.

The Hibees forward said:

"It was some fans shouting something regarding my eye. I get it quite a lot at away grounds but I don't mind it actually, it's not a problem and I just have to concentrate on the game," said the Northern Ireland international.

"It's part and parcel of what has happened and I just have to deal with. Obviously you hear it more when you are coming off. I'm amazed I still get it after this time but I reacted stupidly.

"People have the freedom of speech, they can say what they want, it's up to them."
