Hibs defender Sol Bamba called up to Ivory Coast squad

Hibs defender Sol Bamba has been handed a huge boost, with the news that he has been called up to the Ivory Coast squad.

The Elephants have a friendly against Turkey in Ankara next week and Bamba will hope to gain his first cap.

Qualifying games for both the African Nations Cup and 2010 World Cup are coming up, with the Ivorians facing Guinea, Burkina Faso and Malawi.

The 24-year-old has played in a number of positions this season for the Hibees, and has been outstanding, but has mostly been deployed as a defensive midfielder, he has also played in his favoured position of centre half as well as right back.

Bamba will be joined in the squad by some superstars including, Chelsea forward Didier Drogba and Barcelona midfielder Yaya Toure.
