Hibs eye up summer swoop for Leyton Orient defender Tamika Mkandawire

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen is considering a summer swoop for Leyton Orient defender Tamika Mkandawire.

The Hibees have been tipped off about the Malawi born defender by Marin Ling, who signed Mkandawire for Orient when he was manager of the English League One side.

Ling is currently working as a scout for the Hibees and has given Paatelainen a glowing reference for the player.

Mkandawire, 25, could be a replacement for current Hibs captain Rob Jones, who is expected to return to English football in the summer.

Nottingham Forest, Leeds United and Colchester United all had bids rejected for Jones in January but are expected to return in the summer for the 6ft 7in Hibs captain.

Former West Brom defender Tamika Mkandawire has also played for Hereford United, who he made 125 appearances for, and has now played over 70 times for Orient.

Hibs boss Mixu Paatelainen is expected to test the resolve of Leyton Orient by slapping in a bid of around £85,000 for the defender, when the transfer window opens in the summer.
