Hibs last night failed in a bid to bring former Rangers and Charlton Athletic hitman Jonathan Johansson to Easter Road.

A bid of £150,000 was tabled by Hibees boss Mixu Paatelainen for the Malmo striker, but this has been turned down and the Swedish side have now offered the player a new contract in an attempt to keep the player at the club.

The 32-year-old would bring a wealth of experience to the young Hibs side, having played in the English Premiership for a number of years, as well as in the Uefa Champions League with Rangers. He also has experience at international level but it looks like this deal could be dead.

It's not clear whether Hibs will go back for the striker as the have signed Killie striker Colin Nish in a £150,000 deal and Mixu insisted that Nish wasn't his second choice.

Big Mixu said:

"They are two totally different players, it wasn't a case of going for Colin because I didn't get JJ. I'm delighted to have signed Colin.

"He'll be a useful addition, he's an excellent link up player, he has vision, good awareness, he's a good finisher and hopefully he will score a lot of goals and help others do so as well."
